mind.
Tips on Immigration Interview
An official from the Bureau of U.S.
Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) conducts interview for all
applicants desiring immigration to USA. The best policy for a successful
immigration is to be prepared so as not to arouse any kind of suspicion that
may prove a hindrance from getting an immigrant visa. Here are some tips on
immigration interview for basic preparation. The rest will depend upon
individual cases.
Be prepared with every detail of your application- Take all the
copies of your forms and other documents required in originals with you. You
must know what is there in your forms and documents and must be able to
answer the questions related to them without too much references or
confusion.
Keep your cool while answering personal questions- Although your
immigration interview is based on your employment prospectives, it is not
necessary that the immigration interview questions will only relate to your
employment, they can be personal too. It can be related to your marriage and
spouse. If the officer wants separate interview sessions for you and your
spouse, don't get offended. Prepare your spouse too for the interview
beforehand.
Be focused on interview questions-Listen carefully and answer only
the question that is asked. Don't give odd references while answering the
question. If you can not understand the question at one go, politely request
the officer to rephrase it for you. If you are not comfortable with American
accent, take an interpreter with you. If you do not know the answer to a
question, do not attempt to answer it and admit your ignorance.
Observe interview etiquettes- Reach the venue for interview in time.
Its better if you reach somewhat earlier than the scheduled interview time
so that you can become calm and relaxed. If somehow, you miss your
immigration interview opportunity, you may have to go through a lengthy and
tiring process for rescheduling your interview. Dress appropriately for the
immigration interview. You should wear professional, moderately conservative
clothing appropriate for a job interview in an office. It is better to stick
to a clean and pressed business casual.
Avoid certain behaviors during immigration interview- Avoid
extremist approaches while answering questions on sensitive issues like drug
dealing, communicable diseases, monogamy, smuggling people into the country,
religious issues etc. Do not indulge in any arguments either with the
officer or your family members during interview. Do not try to lie before
the officer. If there is any issue that you feel is difficult to explain,
hire an immigration attorney who might be able to handle difficult
situations during your immigration interview.
