It
was just six months back that the US president Barack Obama visited
Facebook, and he has made another announcement of using another social
network in Silicon Valley, that is, LinkedIn in Mountain View. The idea is
to host an online discussion about jobs. This he is planning to host on 26th
Sept. 2011, Monday. The White House announced this in a posting on 20th Sept
2011 on LinkedIn.
It is reported that Barack Obama will answer questions about job creation
and the growth prospects of the US economy from members of LinkedIn across
the country. He will hear directly from LinkedIn users. It is said that the
LinkedIn users range from small business owners and employees to community
college students to experienced professionals and veterans.

On 26th Sept, President Barack Obama will speak from Computer History
Museum. This is located near LinkedIn's headquarters.
For LinkedIn Users
Though the details about the presidential
visit, including the time of the town hall, are not yet been announced, the
LinkedIn users can start posting questions for the president. This they can
do from White House LinkedIn page. This event of the president will be shown
live on LinkedIn. It can also be seen live from the White House website.
The linked discussion by the president will be a three day event wherein
Obama will also visit the West Coast, including events in Seattle, the Bay
Area, Los Angeles and San Diego.
According to the LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner, this event will be an "
open exchange" about job creation. The event will also discuss
topics on the widening gap between talent and opportunity in the United
States. During the town hall, Weiner will be on stage with Obama.
Weiner also mentioned in the company's blog post that during the past
several months, the national conversation has been focussing on the state of
the U.S. Economy and hence the LinkedIn event is an invitation from the
White House to people from across the country where they can come and join
for an open exchange on one of the most critical objectives as a nation,
that is "
the creation of jobs and economic opportunity".
Facebook and LinkedIn Visit By Obama
In his last visit to Facebook
in April this year, the president spoke highly of the importance of the use
of power of social media for his agenda, as he tried to tap into the
predominantly young, 750 million-member network of Facebook. That time also
he answered questions from voters side-by-side with Facebook CEO and founder
Mark Zuckerberg.
LinkedIn's audience is somewhere around 120 million members, which is
smaller compared to Facebook, but its mission is more focused on employment
and jobs. Also on Monday 26th Sept, at 3 p.m., Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg
will host a live discussion with three top House Republicans: Majority Whip
Kevin McCarthy, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and Budget Committee Chairman
Paul Ryan. The three will field questions from Sandberg and Facebook users
on the site's live video channel, Facebook Live.
