Some Helpful Tips To Prepare
Joining a preparation course or online course for GMAT or any entrance entrance test is not mandatory, but is widely recommended. This motivates you to study. But see that you genuinely devote time to these course instead of wasting time in these training centers.
You have to plan your period of test preparation wisely. Your preparation period should immediately precede taking the tests. There is every likelihood that you forget grammar rules, logic, and maths learned for the test if there is too much of gap between the preparation time and the test time.
It is very essential to concentrate more on the maths section, if you have a non-scientific background and not very friendly to numbers. There is no miracle solution for this. However, you will find that certain questions appear frequently on the GMAT. Optimize your preparation time.
It is better to schedule your exam well in advance if you know where your local testing center is. This gives you enough time to reserve your seat and prepare for the exam. In certain metropolitan areas, booking of seats can be done several months in advance. Make sure you reserve your seat in time to meet your application deadlines.
Prepare, prepare, and prepare. The more you prepare, the more is your score. There is no substitute for preparation. Learning and practicing using a proper study guide will allow you to take these tests easily. Try switching between studying and taking CAT tests and concentrate on your weakest areas to make proper use of your study time.
Helpful Tips for the Test Day
Read the directions for each question type, understand them before you take the test. This will save you valuable time.
Give time to the questions at the beginning of each section. Always remember these questions give you more scores than those at the end. The GMAT is a computer-adaptive test (CAT) and the programming of CAT will zone in on your proficiency levels and will keep on asking you questions within those limits. So take your time on the first 5 questions in each section. The CAT program uses these first few answered questions to determine the level of difficulty that you can handle. Always remember the more the difficult question you answer, the greater is your scoring points. So don't be in a hurry. Once the computer determines your general ability level with these initial questions, you will be able to improve your score.
Always answer those questions whose answers you are sure of. You cannot skip a difficult question and return to it later nor can you review your answers. If you are totally lost, then skip those questions and select the best one, and move on.
Speed yourself. As a rule, you can devote 2 minutes per question.
Be prepared to get combinations of different question types within each section. The computer may select one of various question formats, depending on whether you answered the previous question correctly or incorrectly.
Write well and and write quickly. Your essay is also graded by computer. So whenever you write an essay, be sure to have a logical structure, and a direct, clear style.
